Hummus Varianten – klassisch & kreativ

Hummus is a traditional oriental dip or spread made from cooked, pureed chickpeas, tahini, lemon juice and garlic.

Since we like to give every meal an Ayurvedic twist to make it easier to digest, we have our very own hummus recipe – and not just one!

For the Ayurvedic version, we gently roast the garlic in ghee and refine the hummus with our Lavana Spice Mix . Those who prefer a spicier flavor can also add some Vyosha Spice Mix .

Basic recipe: Ayurvedic hummus

Ingredients:

  • 250 g cooked chickpeas

  • 1 tbsp tahini (sesame paste)

  • Juice of 1 lemon

  • 3 tablespoons olive oil

  • 1 tsp ghee

  • 3 tbsp cold water (optional, for desired consistency)

  • 1 tsp Lavana Spice Mix

  • ½ tsp Vyosha Spice Mix (optional, for added heat)

  • 1 clove of garlic

  • a pinch of salt

Preparation:

  1. Lightly sauté the garlic in a small pan with ghee.

  2. Place all ingredients (including garlic and spices) into a blender.

  3. Blend until smooth and creamy. Add a little water if needed.

  4. Serve as a dip or spread – or divide into portions and refine with various ingredients (see below).

Hummus variations – colorful & delicious

Roasted carrot hummus

Ingredients:

Preparation:

  1. Peel the carrots and cut them into pieces approximately 1 cm in size.

  2. Season with ghee, salt and rasa masala mix and roast in the oven until soft.

  3. Blend together with the hummus in a blender until smooth.

Fresh arugula hummus

Ingredients:

  • 2 handfuls of fresh arugula

  • Juice of 1 lemon

  • 1 avocado (optional, for extra creaminess)

Preparation:
Mix the arugula and lemon juice with the hummus and blend until smooth. Optionally, add a ripe avocado.

Beetroot hummus

Ingredients:

  • 1 cooked beetroot

Preparation:
Simply add the beetroot to the hummus and blend until smooth – done! This hummus has a slightly sweet taste and a beautiful, vibrant color.
